Obscure and uncelebrated drummer Sikiru Adepoju popularly known as the Mozart of the talking drum made Nigeria proud as the Global Drum Project comprising of Adepoju and three others won the laurel for the World Music Category at the 2009 Grammy Awards. The quartet which comprises Mickey Hart, Zakir Hussain, Giovanni Hidalgo and Sikiru Adepoju also won the Grammy for Best World Music Album, the first ever awarded in this category, capping their mastery of the talking drum and a desire to take other percussion instruments to a world-class level.
